UCL Centre for Humanities Interdisciplinary Research Projects (CHIRP)

CHIRP was established in September 2012 to provide a hub for interdisciplinary research activities based within Arts & Humanities and Social & Historical Sciences. The centre's aim is to amplify the reputation of these distinguished areas of UCL research activity as widely as possible, both across other Faculties of UCL and among outside institutions.

We run a variety of high-profile events to showcase interdisciplinary work at UCL, offer advice and support to UCL’s many and varied interdisciplinary research groups, and are currently funding several interdisciplinary research projects, with early career researchers attached. We also hope to have a number of short-term interdisciplinary distinguished visitor fellowships each year.

“Establishing a culture of wisdom […] means supporting the synthesis of new knowledge both within and across fields and disciplines; facilitating collective, collaborative working to gain new insights, fresh perspectives and, ultimately, wisdom; and establishing practical policies based upon the wise counsel so developed.” Professor David Price, UCL Vice-Provost (Research)
