Cross-Cultural Medical Humanities in a Digital World

20 June 2016

We are delighted to announce the success of the recent UCL CCHH application for a Wellcome Trust Seed Award (PI: Vivienne Lo).

The Award will extend an existing CCHH and Peking University (PKU) collaboration, currently concerned with teaching, into a robust research partnership committed to Cross-Cultural Medical Humanities in a Digital World. The two universities have been in leading positions in developing Medical History and MHH (Medical and Health Humanities) since the mid-20th century. This project will bring together UCL's considerable China expertise in programmes of teaching and research, creating new spaces for dialogue with PKU about effective and appropriate health interventions.

Topics to be addressed by twelve researchers from the two universities at an IAS workshop in November include: Privacy and Health Information post China's Social Credit System, Health Philanthropy, the Transcultural History of Medicine and the Cultural Determinants of Health and Sickness. We also plan a major Film Showcase to present our results in Beijing, 2017.
