28 December 2017

On December 23rd 2017, China’s First Medical Humanities summit was held at Peking University, hosted by PKU’s Institute for Medical Humanities, partner department of UCL CCHH.

Scholars from prestigious Chinese universities including PKU, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhejiang University, and Beijing Normal University, as well as independent medical colleges met to share their views and experiences of Medical Humanities education. Governmental officials from the Chinese Health and Family Planning Commission also attended the summit and voiced their expectations of what kind of doctors they wished medical education to produce.

At the summit, Prof. Lu Yang 陆扬, academic dean of the Yenching Academy of Peking University introduced a cross-cultural Medical Humanities and Health Humanities course to be taught jointly in the spring semester of 2018 by faculty from UCL and PKU. The Yenching Academy aims to build bridges between China and the rest of the world through an interdisciplinary master’s program in China Studies for outstanding graduates from all over the globe.
