Abstract

After graduation, and as a promising young researcher, Professor Ma Kanwen 马堪温  was sent out into the field to create a photographic record of the historical sites of some 30 eminent physicians from three millennia spanning the pre-Qin era to the Qing period (1644-1911). This presentation contextualizes his illustrious 60-year career in making the history of medicine in China, which began at the prestigious Yenching University, and will trace his journey around the temples and sacred spaces of just one of those physicians, the legendary Bian Que 扁鹊.
