Careers
Although you may think that finding a career after your university degree is something you can leave until later, it is advisable to be thinking about your future career throughout your time at UCL. During your first years you could think about extracurricular activities that will enhance your CV, in your middle years you might consider applying for internships or arranging work experience and towards the end of your degree you will need to find a job or further training.
The Chemistry Department will do its best to help. In addition, the UCL Careers Service will be able to provide you with professional advice every step of the way from when you arrive at UCL until after you have graduated.
UCL Careers Service
The UCL Careers service provides advice and support at all levels for home and overseas students, undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers. It offers services that include:
- Individual appointments for career planning advice, CV checking, practice interviews;
- Careers fairs;
- ‘Get into’ weeks on sectors not covered by the careers fairs;
- Employer-led skills development workshops.

Departmental Careers Events/Advice
Within the department, we host and recommend a number of events that include:
- Careers lectures (during both reading weeks) from the careers service;
- CPS careers talks (1st term);
- RSC virtual careers fair.

Your personal tutor or MSci/PhD/postdoc supervisor will be able to discuss careers options with you, and if appropriate, ways that you can start planning ahead in terms of work experience and internships.
