Dr Charlie Dunnill
Self-cleaning Antimicrobial Materials Using Nanoparticles
Chemical vapour deposition, (CVD) is a fantastic method for producing thin films on variable substrates both economically and efficiently. In this video Charlie Dunnill shows how we use simple CVD technology to prepare surfaces with functional properties that can help to tackle some of the biggest issues of 21st century science. For example, the spread of bacteria in hospitals is already a major concern for the UK, with antibiotic resistant strains such as MRSA costing the taxpayer billions of pounds - self-cleaning antimicrobial materials created using CVD may soon become the front line in the fight against healthcare associated infections.
