Chemistry Lab Dinner

Alumni and guests are invited to the UCL Chemistry Lab Dinner which will be held on Friday 20th November 2015.

Before the dinner there will be an opportunity to meet fellow alumni in the Nyholm Room from 4.30pm for tea and coffee.  This is followed by a lecture at 5pm in the Chemistry Auditorium.  This year the lecture will be given by the departments' very own Professor Julian Evans, which will then be followed by a drinks reception in the Nyholm Room.

Due to the continued UCL building works, we have had to make changes to the venue. The new venue for the dinner will be the Ambassadors Hotel on Upper Woburn Place, only a short walk from the department.  This venue was used in 2014 and received positive feedback from our guests so we hope many of you will join us again.

RSC Thomas Graham Lecture by Professor Julian Evans

“Forever blowing bubbles”: the preparations for an ocean mirror.

The speaker will outline the strategies for climate remediation by increasing planetary albedo and then focus on the UCL proposal to cover a few percent of ocean surface with persistent foam, preferably derived from ingenerate resources.  This example will illustrate the broader problems of how chemistry can be integrated with materials processing and how materials can benefit from biomass resources.
