Folashade Akinmolayan received her MEng degree in Chemical Engineering from University College London in 2011. Her final year research project was based on the extraction of biofuels from algae, with an emphasis placed on the extraction of lipid oils. She is currently completing her PhD at the same institution.
Research project
Title: Real time Operational Risk management through Advanced Multi-Scale Modelling
Supervisors: Dr Eva Sorensen and Prof Nina Thornhill (Imperial College)
One of the biggest operational risks to water companies arises from
their ability to control the day to day management and optimization of
their water treatment systems. The overall aim of this project is to be able to predict the right water quality and throughput first time and every time, by
utilising the least amount energy, chemicals and manpower. Most modelling work within water operations tends to be based on empirical observations,
rather than mathematically describable relationships of the system
modelled as will be considered in this work.
The main objective of the project is the development of a multi-scale model representation of clean water operations spanning time scales from
minutes to months. The deliverable outcome is an online tool to
predict and suggest ways to mitigate operational risks.
