UCL Student Union facilities
All student musicians in college should also join the UCL
Student Union Music Society, whose members have access
to an additional suite of facilities as follows:
UCL Union Music Society runs three practice rooms in the Basement
of the Huntley Street Building (map).
There are two upright pianos, one is a Kawai, and one a Broadwood
Grand.
In order to use the practice rooms, you must first join the
UCL Student Union Music Society. Once you have your membership
card, you will be able to book a practice room at the reception
desk of the Clubs and Societies Centre, 2nd floor, UCL Bloomsbury
Building. This will require a refundable deposit of £20
and a signature from either the president or treasurer of the
Music Society or Live
Music Society. After this, there is no charge for using the
practice rooms.
The Huntley Street Practice rooms are only available during
office hours (9am-5pm) and are locked in the evenings to prevent
damage.
If you have any difficulty using the practice rooms, or find
the pianos out of tune, email the Student
Union Music Society
Further practice spaces are available in the UCL Union Clubs
and Societies Centre (upstairs in the UCL Bloomsbury Building),
but must be booked by a Student Union Music Society committee
member. These rooms include the Conference Room (capacity 50),
Room 204 (10), the CSC Meeting Room (Capacity 15), the Rehearsal
Room, with its own piano, (Capacity 50) - all in the UCL Bloomsbury
Building.
The Garage Theatre in the Bartlett School of Architecture, mostly
used by the Student Union Drama Society, is an excellent open-plan,
versatile
space.
For a fee, staff can use the
Student Union's practice facilites upstairs in the UCL Bloomsbury
building, by contacting the Clubs and Societies
Centre manager in the first instance.
