2008 Jérémy Anquetin led a multiple author paper in Proceedings of the
Royal Society B along with Paul Barrett, Susan Evans and M Marc Jones that
described a Middle Jurassic Turtle from Skye, Scotland (UK) found on a field
trip led by Susan Evans and funded by National Geographic. The Skye field team
comprised Paul M Barrett, Richard J Butler, Susan E Evans, Rob Felix, Dave Herd,
Jason Hilton, Emrys Jones, Marc E H Jones and Jolyon C Parish. Further details are

media coverage including a BBC Science/Nature
feature.

2008 Marc Jones attended the 68th Society of
Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) annual meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and
presented five contributions including a first author platform presentation, a
joint author poster with Dr Neil Curtis (University of Hull) and a poster by
Susan E Evans and Ryoko Matsumoto.

of Anatomy led by Mehran Moazen (University of Hull) about a combined finite
element analysis (FEA) and multibody dynamics analysis (MDA) of skull
biomechanics during biting in a skull of Uromastyx
hardwickii.

Marc Jones published a paper on skull shape ontogeny in Sphenodon and the evolution of skull shape in Rhynchocephalia in the Journal
of Morphology. This paper is based on some of Marc's PhD work and represents one of the first studies to use Geometric
Morphometrics to analyse skull shape in reptiles.

(Stony Brook), Susan Evans and Marc Jones have published a paper in PNAS on a giant
fossil ceratophryne frog from Madagascar. Such a find has interesting
biogeographic implications as ceratophrynes are otherwise only known from South
America. This work attracted substantial media coverage from all over the
world. This included National
Geographic and a BBC Science/Nature
article that was the most viewed BBC news page globally for 6

2008 We are very pleased to announce that David I. Whiteside has
become an honorary member of the Evans Lab. David completed his PhD at Bristol
in 1983 and made significant contributions to the field around that time. He
subsequently took a break from palaeontology to raise a family and pursue a
successful career in education. However, David is now eager to continue where he
left off and has already recently published a paper in Geol
Mag based on work carried out in conjunction with John
E. A. Marshal (University of Southampton).

2008 After a successful collaboration with Torsten M. Scheyer (University
of Bonn), Jérémy Anquetin has had a paper published in Lethaia
on the histology of fossil turtle bone from Kirtlington in Oxford,
UK.

Studies Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, and presented a joint author paper
(co-authored by Marc Jones) on lepidosaur evolution.
