Mock Assessment Centres

What to expect...

If you expect to attend an employer's assessment centre this year, for either a graduate job or internship, then you can practice first by attending this mock assessment centre.

Each Assessment Centre is provided by a range of employers from different sectors. You don't have to be applying to the employers or sectors involved as they will be running general exercises typical of assessment centres run by any company.

You will complete:

  • a competency based interview
  • a group exercise
  • a presentation

and receive feedback on how you have performed in each area.

You will also have the chance to network with the graduate recruiters taking part in the event.

Outcomes: Participating in this session will enable you to:

  • Increase your familiarity with the range of exercises used by graduate employers in assessment centres
  • Identify your own strengths and weaknesses across a range of assessment centre exercises
  • Use feedback from actual graduate employers to improve your performance at assessment centres
  • Approach real graduate assessment centres with increased confidence

Do I have to book to attend?

YES! You MUST register through your My Careers Service account* in advance and pay a returnable £20 cash deposit if you wish to attend. This enables us to monitor attendance levels and ensure that the events are more effective for those attending.

Places are allocated to those making the payment on a first come, first served basis and more students register interest online than there are places available so you will remain on a reserve list after registering until we receive your deposit. We therefore recommend early payment to avoid disappointment!

Eligibility to attend: This opportunity has limited places available so is only open to penultimate or final year UCL students and UCL GradClub members.

Bookings will close when the event is fully booked or, at the latest, 1 working day before it takes place.

Can I attend if I haven't booked?

NO! These events are popular and usually fully booked. Additionally, these events are held off campus and the host needs a list of attendees in advance so you will not be able to turn up on the day having not booked and paid the deposit in advance.

*My Careers Service: If you're using this for the first time, please read the My Careers Service Instructions carefully before trying to log in.

How to prepare...

The Help With... section of our website suggests a range of resources on preparing for Assessment Centres.

Using these in advance will help you get more out of this event.

Autumn Term Assessment Centre Programme

Details of events that will take place during the Autumn Term will be advertised here during Freshers' Week, (week commencing 22nd September 2014). To ensure you don't miss out on the workshops, we strongly recommend that you register for UCLAlert! so that we can notify you by email when booking is open for these.

If you are late...

For all Careers Service Events, please aim to arrive 5 minutes before the published start time. If you arrive late and the event has already started, the facilitator reserves the right to refuse entry so that you don't disrupt the event for other attendees who arrived on time and you will lose your deposit.

After the Event / Unable to Attend?

Where relevant / possible, any materials relating to the Assessment Centre will be made available to download here.

The Help With... section of our website also suggests a range of resources on how to prepare for Assessment Centres if you haven't used them already.
