Use search tags such as "Further Study, "Postgraduate Study" or "Funding" to get listings of resources including:

Reference and take away resources

The Careers Service Guide, (which includes an article on Further Study), and our range of downloadable help sheets, (mentioned above), from The Careers Group can be collected free of charge from our Information Library (subject to availability).

We also stock a range of free take away resources including postgraduate funding guides and course directories, as well as reference materials including books on university league tables and funding directories.


UCL Student Funding

This department provides a range of online information and resources about student finance and support available on their website, which covers funding for study.

They also subscribe to the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding Online which you can access using your UCL email address.

Each UCL Department with undergraduate courses has a Departmental Page on our website which includes employment statistics and links to job profiles which graduates from a particular study discipline might typically go in to.

We organise a wide range of events and workshops, some of which include individual events on further study...

Most events require advance booking so follow the links below for more information on:

  • Careers Essentials Programme: (Autumn and Spring Terms): A series of Careers Consultant led talks aimed at all students and recent graduates which includes sessions on on further study, finding / funding PhDs and PhD applications amongst other topics.
  • Sector Themed Weeks (Autumn and Spring Terms): Our programme of themed weeks provide networking opportunities with professionals in a range of different sectors who can tell you more about postgraduate qualification requirements for certain roles.
  • Recruitment Fairs and Employer Presentations (Autumn and Spring Terms):These events also provide the opportunity to speak to future employers about the potential advantages of postgraduate study when applying for their roles.

UCL Student Funding

This department provides 1-1 appointments with their Student Funding Welfare Adviser who can give advice on the hardship fund, access to learning fund, student loans company funding, loans, bursaries and more. More details are available on their website.


Additional Support from UCLU

UCLU Rights & Advice also offer 1-1 appointments with student advisers where you can discuss financial support.

‘Applying for a PhD’ – Listen to PhD student panel discussion


UCL Careers held a panel discussion event on 8th December 2016 for students who want to know more about the PhD application process and what studying a PhD is like. Mixture of PhD students and PhD graduates from UCL answered questions on topics such as PhD funding, finding a supervisor as well as how they found the transition from an undergraduate/masters degree to PhD.

Details of the speakers are below:

Jiawei Li – 3rd year PhD student in Liver and Digestive Medicine

Domenico Macri – 3rd year PhD student in Chemical Engineering

Dr Anna Mazenod - Research Associate at UCL Institute of Education’s Department for Education, Practice and Society (completed Doctor in Education)
