Careers Week: Class of 2013

To equip you for life after your studies, UCL Careers Service offer a week of events for the graduating Class of 2013 including a Jobs Market with over 40 recruiters with opportunities for a 2013 start, workshops, employer networking opportunities and 1 to 1 coaching.

The UCL Jobs Market 2013 (kindly sponsored by Colas Rail)
Date: Thursday 30th May 2.30pm to 4.30pm

The Jobs Market 2013 is a great way for you to understand more about a whole range of graduate jobs and internship roles.

From big prestigious graduate schemes with places still to fill to smaller organisations who are looking for graduates for immediate start.  Recruitment agencies will be on hand offering access to a host of interesting graduate-level opportunities. Come and find out about roles in sectors representing finance, consulting, engineering, technology, the media, charities, sales and marketing as well as many others.

If you are still unsure what you want to do, this is a great way to get some inspiration and ideas by talking to employer staff about the types roles they can offer. For those who are a little more sure, you can begin to access important information that will help you decide whether to make a future application.

  • what your options are, how to begin planning your future and taking control of your job search
  • how the graduate labour market works and what employers are looking for 
  • how to make an impact and make the most of your skills and experience when writing a CV

 “Polished Presence – Skills for the Workplace” hosted by Bloomberg (organised by the UCL Women in Management society)
Date: Wednesday 29th May 11am-2pm

Through interactive sessions, this event will hone three core workplace skills – selling yourself, dealing with difficult business conversations and letting things go. Organised by the UCL Women in Management society in collaboration with Bloomberg, these skills have been identified as ones which women particularly  struggle with in the world of work.

This event is open to ALL students, male and female.

The Technology Entrepreneur Event
Date: Wednesday 29th May 2013 5.30pm – 7.30pm

This event will feature Small and medium sized employers from the technology sector with a wide range of jobs, internships and placement opportunities. If you haven’t secured an internship or job this event is a MUST for you.

Class of 2013: Using Social media to improve your job search
Date: Friday 31st May 2013 10 to noon 

You may have heard of LinkedIn as a powerful professional networking tool.  But did you realise that students and graduates can use it to raise their profiles with recruiters and find valuable contacts in your area of interest? In addition, many recruiters are now using Linkedin as a way of targeting specific individuals in the job market.

In this session, taking place in a computer lab, you will get hands-on with the site and will start by understanding the basics of setting up a LinkedIn profile before moving on to how you can use LinkedIn effectively to network and look for opportunities.  In addition, we'll look at how to utilise other social networking tools to help in your job search.
