Employer Presentations

“The presenter was really enthusiastic and helpful – I definitely picked up some top tips.”

How to prepare...

The Career Planning section of our website suggests a range of resources which provide information on specific occupations and what's happening in a particular sector at the moment plus company profiles for most of the recruiters listed below. A basic knowledge of these areas will allow you to focus on more in-depth questions at the presentation.

Late Arrivals, Cancellations and No Shows...

For all Presentations, please aim to arrive 5 minutes before the published start time.

If you arrive late and the presentation has already started, your booking is NOT guaranteed and you may be refused entry to the presentation.

Presentations are often fully booked and there are likely to be other students on a waiting list for any presentation you're booked to attend.

Therefore, if you know in advance that you'll be unable to attend a presentation, you MUST cancel your booking through your myUCL CAREERS account, ideally with as much notice as possible but definitely no later than 3 hours before the presentation is due to start as this will allow another student to attend in your place.

No Shows:

If you don't cancel in advance or don't turn up to a Presentation you're booked to attend, your non-attendance will be recorded and this will affect your ability to book future events if you continue to book and miss multiple events.

After the Event / Unable to Attend?

The Career Planning section of our site suggests alternative sources of information on specific companies / sectors if you've missed a presentation. It will also give information on how to get one-to-one advice on sectors / companies you're interested in.

Individual company websites will also include the type of information typically covered in any presentation plus additional resources such as employee case studies, video profiles and/or tips on writing applications/preparing for interviews and assessment centres.

Using JobOnline or other job sites, you will be able to find details of any vacancies that were being promoted by the company during the presentation.

Register with UCLAlert! if you haven't done so already to ensure you don't miss out on similar events in future.

Resources from past Presentations

One of the key reasons for attending presentations is the "Question and Answer" section and the chance to network with recruiters.

Recruiters generally don't provide information slides or resources which can be accessed here after the presentation but instead direct interested applicants to the information on their website.

However, where resources / recordings are made available, you'll find these below...

Employer giving students presentation

Many recruiters from a wide range of different industry sectors deliver presentations throughout the Autumn and Spring terms to publicise their company and recruitment opportunities to UCL students and graduates.

They provide an ideal opportunity for you to hear from newly hired recent graduates, recruitment staff and / or more senior staff who'll tell you about their company, their recruitment processes, (often including tips on applications / interviews), the types of opportunities available and what it’s like to work for them.

Following the presentation, there will usually be a question and answer session and / or the opportunity for networking with the company representatives.

The lecture style presentation part generally lasts for up to an hour and you can then usually stay as long as you're able for the networking and Q&A session.

New presentations are scheduled in throughout the year and, once confirmed, will be advertised in the events section of your myUCL CAREERS account.

Email Alerts:

Through your myUCL CAREERS account, you can also update your profile so that we can notify you of any forthcoming events by email. Our News page gives more information on this plus details of other ways to keep up to date with what's going on at UCL Careers...

For ALL Presentations, you MUST book in advance as detailed below to guarantee a place.

No deposit is required once you've booked and all presentations are free to attend...

Presentations "On Campus":

Presentations listed as "On Campus", (e.g. at UCL Careers, in the Student Central Building or in one of the main UCL Buildings), are booked using your "myUCL CAREERS" account.

(If using this for the first time, please read the My UCL Careers Instructions carefully before trying to log in).

Venue details for the presentation will be confirmed when you book and can be checked through your myUCL CAREERS account. You will also receive a booking confirmation email with the venue details.

Booking for each "On Campus" Presentation will open TWO weeks before it is due to take place and will close when it is fully booked or, at the latest, three hours before the event takes place.

Event Waiting Lists:

If an event is already full when you try to book, you will be able to join a waiting list through your myUCL CAREERS account. If a place becomes available, you will automatically be registered for the event and notified by email.

Places may be allocated at quite short notice, (up to three hours before the event starts), so please ensure you check your email or myUCL CAREERS account on the day or remove yourself from the waiting list in advance if you know won't be able to attend at short notice.

Presentations "Off Campus":

Presentations listed as "Off Campus" will be in venues organised by the recruiters themselves, often in their own offices.

You will usually need to register with or apply to the recruiter directly for these and location details will be provided by them when your registration is confirmed.

Any queries about your application / booking should then be directed to the recruiter.

Booking windows will vary so we recommend registering with UCLAlert! so you can be notified as booking opens for any presentations you might be interested in.

Can I attend if I haven't booked?

Generally no!

For "On Campus" presentations, we strongly recommend you book a place in advance or sign up to the event waiting list as detailed above.

On the day, after all registered students have arrived, space permitting, students on the waiting list will be admitted on a first come first served basis but we cannot guarantee entry.

"Off Campus" events are generally by invitation only so it's usually not possible to attend if you haven't pre-booked. Queries about attendance should be sent directly to the recruiter.
