Sector Themed Weeks
“I was provided with lots of valuable information about the importance of networking and researching companies.”
During the Autumn and Spring Terms, we run a range of Sector Themed Weeks which cover careers in or focused on:
- Museums & Cultural Heritage (Autumn)
- Government & Policy (Autumn)
- Media (Autumn)
- Charities & NGOs (Spring)
- The Environment (Spring)
- Health & Life Sciences (Spring)
With a mix of panel discussions, presentations, information sessions, networking events and one-to-one coaching, Sector Themed Weeks are an ideal opportunity for you to hear from industry professionals, UCL alumni and Careers Consultants and ask specific questions in order to gain a better understanding of what you need to succeed in a particular sector.
You don’t have to come along to every event during a Sector Themed Week but you will have to book for each one you are hoping to attend. This works on a first come first served basis, details of which you will find below.
For each event in a Themed Week there will be an outline of what to expect in terms of the event format plus details of organisations / speakers who will be present at each event to help you think about the types of questions you might want to ask.
You can also use the key resources suggested in our Help with… pages to brush up on your knowledge of the relevant sector before coming along to really make the most of events during the week.
The list of individual events and speaker profiles for each Themed Week will be available, (via the links in the left menu), for the remainder of the academic year.
These can be used to identify organisations that can provide information on the sector or even potential contacts as many speakers involved with Themed Weeks will be happy for you to contact them via a LinkedIn profile or through the UCL Alumni Web Community.
The individual Themed Week pages will also include downloadable resources or presentation slides that accompanied specific events where appropriate.
Additionally, the relevant pages of our Help With... section can also help you further research into the sector you're interested in, find current vacancies plus give you information on support available when writing applications or preparing for interviews.
If you did miss a Themed Week this year, we strongly recommend that you register for our UCLAlert! service to ensure you don't miss out on similar events that you might be interested in in future.
For all Themed Week events, please aim to arrive 5 minutes before the published start time. If you arrive late, the facilitator reserves the right to refuse entry so that you don't disrupt the event for other attendees who arrived on time.
As these events are popular and usually fully booked, if you know in advance that you'll be unable to attend, you can cancel your booking through your My UCL Careers account at any time up until midnight on the day before an event is due to take place to allow someone else to book.
If you don't cancel in advance as above or simply don't turn up to an event you're booked to attend, we will record a "No Show" which may affect your future bookings or use of our services.
