Accessing our services

To access any services offered by UCL Careers, you will need valid UCL ID to prove you're eligible to use them.

  • Current students. We will only accept your UCL student ID card to confirm your student status. If you have lost this, please get a replacement card from UCL Security Services
  • Recent graduates have continued access to our services for up to two years after completing a course at UCL, (based on your study dates as detailed in the next "Student Status" tab), and should continue using your old student ID card for this period.
  • Staff members. We will only accept your UCL staff ID card to confirm your staff status. Please speak to your department if you don't have one or if this has expired.

Phone / email Enquiries

If you're making enquiries about our services by phone or email, please provide the UPI code, (five letters and two numbers - e.g. UCLID38), which appears on the front of your UCL ID card.

Alternative Forms of ID

If you've left UCL and no longer have your old student ID, you will need some alternative proof of having studied at UCL within the last two years.

This will need to include details of the course you were on and the year that you completed it.

A copy of the PORTICO transcript that you received on completing your course will have this or you could request a formal letter from your old department with this information.

UCL Alumni Benefits Card

This card does not confirm your course completion date so cannot be used to access services offered by UCL Careers.

When you finish your course at UCL, continued access to different student services will vary but won't be guaranteed by the exact expiry date of your student ID card or by the date of your Graduation Ceremony.

Using UCL Careers

On PORTICO, there will be a record of your official course completion date.

If you've already left UCL and cannot access PORTICO, your course transcript summary will contain the same information regarding dates of study.*

After this course completion date, you will have exactly two years to continue using our services as a recent graduate and will have access to the same range of services that you could use as a current student.

Just remember you will need valid UCL ID which confirms your eligibility to do so - see previous tab...

Access to alternative services

When your access to UCL Careers as a recent graduate ends, you can make use of similar services offered through The University of London or other providers. See our Alternative Services page for more information on what's available.

*If you don't have access to this enrolment summary, your (old) department should be able to provide you with this... If you're still unsure, please do get in touch.
