Scientific Engagement
The Cardiovascular GO Annotation Initiative is committed to ensuring comprehensive annotation of genes involved in cardiovascular processes and promotion of the Gene Ontology to cardiovascular scientists. We promote GO annotation and curation in general, to the academic research community in a number of different ways:
- Publication of scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.
- Attendance at scientific meetings provides the team with the opportunity to encourage scientists to review the current annotation status of their favourite gene/protein and to suggest publications which could be used to improve these annotations. Attendance at meetings also provides the team with the opportunity to promote the use of GO and provide answers to any queries new GO users may have.
- Academic teaching allows us to raise awareness of data curation and annotation to the next generation of research scientists.
- The BHF-UCL team are members of the Gene Ontology Consortium (GOC), and participate in the development of the ontology, as well as contribute to discussions to improve and refine annotation practice.
