Community Annotation

We welcome the contribution of scientific experts who can aid us in our task of annotating human gene products. There are several ways of being involved:

Pathway or Area expert  Has ongoing responsiblity for the structure of the ontology of a particular pathway or area of interest. Will probably have attended an ontology content meeting, and worked closely with GO editors on development of the ontology.
Gene or Protein expert
Has ongoing responsibility for the annotation of a particular gene product. Works closely with the GO annotator to ensure that the annotation associated with the gene product is complete and accurate. Has a responsibility to alert annotators to new papers/findings to keep annotation updated.
Gene or Protein family expert  Has ongoing responsibility for the annotation of a family of proteins, related by structure or function. Works closely with the GO annotator to ensure that the annotation associated with the gene products are complete and accurate. Has a responsibility to alert annotators to new papers/findings to keep annotation updated.
Community annotator  Has contributed to the annotation of human gene products but does not maintain ongoing responsibility for the annotations.

If would would like to volunteer for one of these roles, or if you would like more information on what it might involve, please contact us.
