Derek Yellon awarded an honorary DSc by the University of Cape Town
This is in recognition of his distinguished basic and clinical research into the mechanisms underlying the phenomena of myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury and cardioprotection. In addition, his significant contribution, to molecular research and cardiovascular medicine as a whole is also recognised.
Professor Yellon has been Professor of Molecular & Cellular Cardiology at UCL since 1993 and has made an impact on basic and clinical cardiology worldwide. He has published more than 450 papers and edited 22 books.
He has enabled collaboration between academic institutions in the northern and southern hemispheres through the Hatter Cardiovascular Institute and the longstanding collaboration between UCL and the University of Cape Town.
