Resilience and quality of life in early old age

Lead researcher - Professor David Blane, Imperial College
Co-investigators - Professor Richard Wiggins, City University, Dr Scott Montgomery, Karolinska Institute, Dr Gopalakrishnan Netuveli, Zoe Hildon and Juliet Stone, Imperial College

The project consists of two arms. Arm 1: secondary data analysis of Health Survey for England, English Longitudinal Study of Ageing and British Household Panel Survey. Arms 2: re-survey of Boyd Orr cohort. Arm 1 will identify, in large representative data sets, contextual and life course influences on quality of life and physiological status in early old age.

Arm 2 will identify, in a small cohort, contextual and life course influences on change in quality of life and physiological status through early old age. The two arms will be united to give estimates of the effects of change in the full population.
