EDUCGE01 Investigating Research

Module Leader: Dr Jason Davies

The module aims to:

  • engage students with key concepts and theories which describe the natures of forms of research and explain the fundamental issues underlying them;
  • develop student capacity to reflect critically upon theoretical perspectives in the light of professional experience or aspirations;
  • enable students to reflect critically upon their own practice through the application of relevant theoretical perspectives.

Successful participants will be better able to:

  • locate, analyse, interpret and apply concepts and theories from different intellectual traditions which explain the fundamental issues underlying research and which impact upon the ways forms of research practice have developed;
  • reflect critically upon their practice as developing researchers, generically and in their institutional, disciplinary and group contexts, in the light of relevant theoretical perspectives;
  • construct argument based writing for construction of discursive and theoretical papers.
