UCL CALT Teaching & Learning Conference 2013

(In collaboration with ELE and UCL Careers)

Theme: Employability (one of UCL’s five Strategic Priorities)

Rationale

In the current educational environment with rising student fees, university reputations are likely to be affected profoundly by the employability of their students after graduation. Prospective students will increasingly use employability data in their selection of a university, particularly now that these are becoming more available and publicised through the Key Information Set and League Tables. The more discerning, and by association brightest students, will be looking for value for money and will select only universities that will offer them excellent prospects for their future employment. To maintain its reputation as a world-class university, UCL has made a commitment to its students to aid them in their professional development beyond their subject learning. As set out in the UCL Council White Paper 2011-2021, UCL intends to provide its students with opportunities in every facet of their university life to develop into highly employable individuals.

Aim

This is a poignant time to come together across UCL, in order to share models of best practice in our provision of professional development for our students e.g. curriculum initiatives/practices, work placements/experience, enhancing graduate attributes, key skills development, etc. that effectively support the enhancement of the student learning experience. There are already a number of different initiatives taken by academic staff within UCL to support this agenda. The conference will provide an exciting opportunity to showcase what is currently in place and support expansion of exemplary programmes across UCL.

Format

Presenters will be encouraged to use a variety of techniques / formats and digital technologies to support their presentation, including student feedback to support their presentation either within the presentation or in person.

Will include leading experts in the field of HE employability and business
