Third year
The central feature of the third year is team working to explore the design and economic appraisal of a complete process for the production of biological materials on an industrial scale. Recent challenges have included the creation of scaleable processes for supply of genes for gene vaccines, antibodies as targeted therapeutic agents and new antibiotics. These are all at the cutting edge of the biotechnology industry and provide insight into the key challenges to be met. Complementary business studies demonstrate how such a project can be turned into a practical reality.
Options in management, languages, research and environmental engineering allow a measure of specialization.
Then you can either...
graduate with a BEng in Biochemical Engineering, for example to pursue postgraduate research or industrial training
or...
study for a fourth year to graduate with one of the MEng options listed.
