Research Interests

My research interests lie in the application of multivariate data analysis and first principle mathematical modelling to the biotechnology sector. I am currently working in the UCL-MedImmune Centre of Excellence as a research associate specialising in bioprocess multivariate statistics and chemometrics. This project involves analysing data sets from both upstream and downstream processing to evaluate process operation improvements and optimise final product titres.

Previously I have developing a first a principles mathematical model of a 100,00 litre penicillin fermentation process. The simulation is freely available to download from www.industrialpenicillinsimulation.com and aims to serve as a valuable tool in the development of improved control strategies for industrial fermentations and can also be used for research and educational activities in monitoring, control and optimisation studies.

Additionally, I am interested in the application of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) methodology to the bioprocess sector. Previous experience includes the application of Raman spectroscopy for the on-line estimation of critical process parameters (CCPs) and critical quality attributes (CQAs) of a small-scale bacterial fermentation.
