Max’s main research interest is in the field of Biorefineries. He is working on the project “Bio-derived feedstocks for sustainable, UK-based manufacture of pharmaceuticals and their intermediates (EP/K014897/1)” using sugar beet pulp as feedstock. He is developing new strategies for biofractionation using a continuous membrane bioreactor. He is also working on the separation of monosaccharides by using liquid-liquid chromatography, optimisation and scale-up of biocatalytic processes.
He is also supporting PhDs students related to the feedstock project and teaching on a course Sustainable Industrial Bioprocesses and Biorefineries.
Max also has experience on upstream bioprocessing, protein downstream processing, biocatalysts immobilisation and heterogeneous biocatalysis.
