Igor obtained his MSc in physics and then PhD in physical and mathematical sciences from Moscow State University.
He started his career in Estonia in the Laser Department of the Special Bureau of Design, Estonian Academy of Science, then worked in semiconductor industry in an Electrotechnical company, in Estonia. At that time Igor also performed a couple of postgraduate Masters in Laser techniques and technologies and in Biotechnology.
He continued his research in UK working in academia at the Universities of Dundee and St-Andrews, Leeds and Birmingham, particularly on application of technical and fundamental physics in life sciences and healthcare. Igor worked also in UK biotech industry in the company Avacta Analytical specialised on development and manufacturing of innovative instrumentation platforms and consumables for biopharmaceutical industry and animal healthcare.
Areas of his research interests included biophotonics, laser and optical instrumentation, atomic force and optical microscopy and spectroscopy, optical tweezers, microsystem engineering and microfluidics, cells manipulation, sorting and concentration by optical and dielectrophoretic forces, Raman spectroscopy of cells, extracellular vesicles and bacteria, combined with chemometric methods for diagnostics of cancer and infectious diseases.
Igor joined to the Department of Biochemical Engineering, University College London in August 2017 as a Research Fellow within Future Targeted Healthcare Manufacturing Hub to develop platforms and analytics for autologous cell therapies.
