Sarah Slack wins People's Choice Award at 3MT

Sarah Slack UCL Biochemical Engineering

EngD Student Sarah Slack has won the People's Choice award at this year's 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at UCL. Sarah was recently involved in the BBC's Contagion project and TV show, and her 3MT, titled "Flu Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope," was given an award by the audience in a vote at the competition on 25 June. We're pleased to say that this is the third year in a row that UCL Biochemical Engineering students have won awards for sharing their enthusiasm about their postdoctoral research projects in this competition.

Say Hello to the New Beakers Committee for 2018

The Beakers are UCL Biochemical Engineering's postgraduate committee. Every year we welcome a fresh team of postgraduates to take on  roles in the organising team, arranging events and supporting the department. Using small stuff to tackle big problems

The ultra scale-down (USD) approach pioneered by the department aims to reproduce full-scale manufacturing in research labs. Ultra scale-down technologies are combination of proprietary ultra scale-down devices and laboratory methodologies. They have the potential to transform and accelerate bioprocess development, enabling the design of robust manufacturing for the biotech industries to produce biopharmaceuticals, cell and gene therapies, vaccines, enzymes and other biochemicals as building blocks for food, energy, and other products. 

Brenda Parker wins Student Choice Award

Student Choice Awards 2018 Brenda Parker Michael Arthur

622 staff across UCL, working in a variety of roles were nominated in UCL Student Union's Student Choice Awards. Dr Brenda Parker is this year's winner of the Student Choice Awards for 'Brilliant Research-based Education.' This recognised her leadership of the year 2 Integrated Engineering Programme (IEP) scenario on sustainable bioprocess.

Kasia Joins Biochemical Engineering

We're very pleased to have Kasia Janik working with professional services. Kasia is covering the role of undergraduate programme co-ordinator in the Admissions and Progressions Team for the duration of Hayley Powell's  maternity leave.
