Those working in the field of protein engineering have been wondering if it was ever going to get the recognition it deserved. Now these three pioneers of the field have been recognised with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. What makes these three special is the sheer impact they have had on our lives whether we know it or not.

This is the third year in a row that a student from UCL Biochemical Engineering has won a prestigious Royal Commission for the exhibition of 1851 (RC1851) award. In 2016 Sheun Oshinbolu was awarded one of 25 fellowships for advanced study, and last year both Elsa Noaks and Shaun Mansfield both received a fellowship worth up to £80,000 to support the research, development and design of their projects.
