Participants will be introduced to the principles of behaviour change, and how these can be applied to practical problems. The course is aimed at anyone who is interested in behaviour change; from researchers, practitioners, intervention designers, managers and policy makers. Places are limited with the course strictly capped at 36 participants.

By completing the applied principles & practice online course you can expect to have:

  • a greater understanding of the possibilities for applying behaviour change interventions to your own situation
  • a practical framework for developing and implementing these interventions in your area of interest

The course will be delivered through live online sessions and will run for one-week. Live sessions will be held daily and materials for pre- and post-course reading will be available in the weeks prior to this using the UCLeXtend platform. Learning will be supported through a combination of live webinars, small group tasks and discussion boards, all facilitated by world leading experts in the science and practice of behaviour change. Tasks and presentation content will draw on real-life scenarios/projects tailored to suit the interests of participants.

Live sessions will be taught by experienced facilitators who will lead small group tutorials to embed and help participants apply the learning points of each day to their own situations. Tutorial groups are also an opportunity for participants to have their personal objectives reviewed throughout the week as the course progresses. Participants will be encouraged to team up with a 'buddy' to provide support with applying theory to practice following the end of the course. There is also a LinkedIn group course alumni where participants keep in touch and continue to review, problem-solve and plan behaviour change interventions.

Participants will be invited to select a project that they will focus and work on throughout the week. The aim at the end of the course is for all participants to leave with a tailored plan for applying what they have learnt during course to their own situation or area of interest.
This course is highly participatory and requires a strong level of English language comprehension.
