Student Services

Portico: The UCL Student Information Service

Portico is UCL’s student information service and is available to everybody across UCL via the web portal – http://www.ucl.ac.uk/portico. You will need to log on using the UCL username and password you are given at enrolment and are the same details you use to log onto any UCL restricted webpages, your UCL email account and the student Windows Terminal Service (WTS). If you do not know them or if you forget them, you need to visit the ISD Service Desk as soon as possible: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/students/connections/passwords/faq/forgotten_password.

Alternatively, you can register for the User Authentication Service (https://myaccount.ucl.ac.uk/uas-register/) which will allow you to change your password online rather than in person at the DMS Watson Library.

Your password will automatically expire after 150 days unless you change it before then. You will receive a warning 30 days before your password is due to expire to remind you to change it. You cannot use the same password twice and your password must be 8 characters long and at least three of the characters must be either lowercase and / or uppercase characters, a number and / or a symbol, e.g. ! % ^ * ( ) _ + - = " ` ; < > , ? / @ $ & [ ] { } BUT NOT £ : | \ ~

On Portico, you can;

  • Edit your personal details, e.g. your contact address which must be kept up to date
  • Complete online module registration
  • View data about your modules
  • View your exam results online
  • Update your Key Skills information
  • Monitor your HEAR data

Key Skills

As part of Portico, you can also manage a description of your ‘Key Skills, extra-curricular activities which will increase your employability at the end of your degree.

Information on building Key Skills into your UCL course is available online at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ppd

Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) data

The HEAR is a single electronic source of information which records your achievements. It details activities beyond the traditional transcript or degree result and can be accessed by students whilst studying on the degree programme or after completion and graduation.

Activities that can be included on your HEAR can include working as a UCL Ambassador, working as a UCLU Society Representative, any prizes, scholarships or awards you achieve, a Peer Assisted Learning mentor or acting as a Student Academic Representative, aka StAR (see: http://uclu.org/representation/student-academic-representatives-stars for details).

Information on what should be recorded in your HEAR can be found online at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hear

Transcripts

Formal transcripts can be requested from the Registry. Information on how to obtain a transcript is available online at:

http://www.ucl.ac.uk/current-students/exams_and_awards/qualifications/transcripts
