Hindi is a descendant of Sanskrit, which is an ancient Indian language.

It has been influenced by languages such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Portuguese and English, and it is part of the language family known as the Indo-European language family. Therefore there are many similarities between Hindi and European languages.
