This page provides access to ASP's main digital datasets (with their relevant metadata) and offers a series of GIS tutorials that explore ASP data. All project datasets will also be archived with the UK Archaeological Data Service soon. Archive photos of all collected artefacts and original tract record forms are available from anonymous ftp at delos.tuarc.trentu.ca (you may need to download an ftp client such as FileZilla to access this site if you are not familiar with ftp at the command line).

Update March 2011 - The datasets and tutorials below will shortly be removed and/or updated. In the meantime, an archive file of the full datasets is available here (N.B. A few of these are still receiving final modifications, particularly the pottery database).

Primary Datasets

Topography - a series of topographic datasets drawing on the Hellenic Military Geographical Service's 1:5,000 map series, including: i) a polygon dataset detailing the coastline of the island, ii) a set of complete 4m and occasional 2m contours, iii) a set of additional spotheights, and iv) a digital elevation model with 10m cell size derived from i-iii (not yet available, permission pending)

Survey Units - our stage-one tractwalking and stage-two grid square collection units (0.5Mb .zip file, near final version)

Database - the project's main database as a series of flatsheet tables (0.2Mb .zip file, preliminary version; includes only a small sample of the artefact-specific data for the tutorials)

Geology - detailed polygon and polyline data mapping the major bedrock units and faults on the island (not yet available)

Terraces - a comprehensive mapping of the dry-stone terrace systems found on Antikythera (1.8Mb .zip file, preliminary version)

Aerial Photography - a set of georeferenced 1:10k aerial photographs taken in 1944 by the UK Royal Air Force (not yet available, courtesy of TARA)

ASTER Satellite Imagery - a full multi-spectral coverage of Antikythera and the westernmost part of Crete (25.5Mb .zip file, courtesy of NASA's ASTER program)

Quickbird Satellite Imagery - a downsampled, 10m resolution image of the whole island (2.2Mb .zip file, courtesy of Digital Globe and Eurimage)

Full Resolution Quickbird Sample - a full resolution Quickbird panchromatic and multi-spectral bundle coverage a 2x2km sample area of Antikythera (15.6Mb .zip file, courtesy of Digital Globe and Eurimage)
