Past Imperfect Seminar: On Forgetting

Friday, 21 March 2014  3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Medawar G01 LT

How does the historian confront the discursive hegemony of presentism, the instant allure of the contemporary, and the ever-changing mnemonic technologies that reconfigure the way we remember and our abilities to forget? “On Forgetting” seeks to explore those overlooked, abandoned, and forgotten moments in history as a means to expand the way remembrance and forgetting, voluntary and involuntary memory, incompletion and irretrievability play into the historian’s art.

Invited Speakers: Alexander Nemerov and Michael Ann Holly

Panel Participants: Maria H. Loh (UCL), Rose Marie San Juan (UCL), Bronwen Wilson (University of East Anglia)
