This course will introduce students to the realities of archaeological practice in  21st century Britain. A series of lectures and seminars will explore the nature of ‘commercial’ archaeology – the roles and responsibilities of commercial archaeologists, the legal and ethical frameworks underlying this type of archaeological practice, and the relationship of such ‘business led’ archaeological work to the wider archaeological community. The course will explore both theoretical and methodological approaches to this subject, drawing on a wide range of relevant materials and case studies from across the UK.
