Your application must include:
- A completed application form
- Two references
- Copies of your transcript
- An English Language Qualification if English is not your first language.
There is a £75 application fee for online application fees and a £100 application fee for applications submitted in hard copy for all Masters degrees. This fee is non-refundable.
Once the Department has received your admissions application you will be sent an email confirming receipt and we aim to get a final decision to you within two weeks.
Admissions for the majority of our degrees are assessed on the application alone and you will not be interviewed. There will, however, be an opportunity to meet and discuss the course with the relevant course co-ordinator if your application is successful.
Admissions to the following degrees is assessed on both the application and an interview:
MA Museum Studies
You will be informed whether you are to be called to interview or not within two weeks of receipt of your application. Following your interview you will receive an informal email informing you of the outcome of the application. If successful then an official offer letter will be sent by College Admissions.
We can accept applications from October for entry in the following September. All complete applications (including references) must be submitted by 31st July at the very latest (though you are advised to apply earlier in the year where possible) except for the following exceptions:
MA Cultural Heritage Studies 1st March
MA Museum Studies 20th January
MSc Conservation for Archaeology and Museums 10th April
These deadlines are absolute unless places are still available on individual courses. Please click here for availability. Applications need to be complete with both references by the above deadlines. Please note that referees are only sent links to submit references once the applicant has submitted their part of the application.
We regret that we are unable to offer a waiting list for any degree.
Please note that if you apply online your application will not be uploaded until both referees have submitted their references. You can check the progress of your online application form at any point during the application process and you will receive email confirmation each time a reference has been submitted.
Your referees are only sent the link to submit a reference once you have submitted your part of the application.
If your referees have not received the necessary link to submit the reference you can go into your student portal and resend the link. Any problems please email Lisa Daniel who will be able to help.
Ideally you should be submitting two academic references; however we will accept one reference from an employer. If you have been out of academic life for more than five years we would accept two employer references if an academic reference is impossible to obtain.
A transcript is a breakdown of marks you obtained in each course/module you took at University.
Your University will be able to provide you with this. If you are currently studying please provide a transcript of the past two years marks.
If your transcripts are not in English you will need to provide an official translation. This can either be through your University, the British Council, the British Embassy or an official translator.
If you are unable to provide a transcript a copy of your degree certificate will be accepted.
If you are a current UCL student please print off your current marks from your PORTICO record.
If your University can only provide a hard copy of your transcript UCL will accept a scanned copy of this.
