Peter Gould

Dr. Peter G. Gould specialises in the economics and governance of non-profit organisations, especially heritage-related projects. He is also a Consulting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Cultural Heritage Center and an Adjunct Professor of Archaeology at the American University of Rome. He recently received his Ph.D. from University College London’s Institute of Archaeology, where his research focused on the governance institutions of heritage-related economic development projects in Peru, Belize and Ireland.

Previously, he had an extensive career in business and non-profit management. As a specialist in turnaround management and investment banking, he has been the chief executive of numerous businesses in the United States and in Europe in manufacturing, service and retail industries. Early in his career, he was the senior staff member to the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Development in the U.S. Department of Commerce. He has served on the Boards of several non-profit organizations in the Philadelphia region, including the Zoological Society of Philadelphia of which he was Chairman for 6 years.

Among other current affiliations, he is a director of the Sustainable Preservation Initiative and is an overseer of the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. In addition to his Ph.D., he holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Swarthmore College.
