Fresh Light on Cleopatra

The UCL Institute of Archaeology and Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society will jointly host a lecture by Sarah Pearce (University of Southampton) on 25 June.

The lecture is titled Fresh Light on Cleopatra and all are welcome to attend.

Abstract

Josephus presents Cleopatra VII as a malevolent force towards the Jews in her kingdom, and her neighbour Herod the Great. But how realistic was this portrayal? Professor Pearce explores what ancient texts and portraiture can contribute to our understanding of Egypt's Jews under Ptolemaic rule.
