Palaeography:Henderson/Okasha/1992, 14: `Insular majuscule script'.

Okasha/Forsyth/2001, 126: `The remaining letters are in half-uncial script and are legible'.

CISP: The lettering is in Insular half-uncial. The A is in the 'OC' form, while the T and N appear to have wedge-shaped finials. The D has a flat stroke atop its ascender and a short rightward stroke from the bottom of the ascender. The N has a similar stroke, in this case turned upwards, and again another such decorative stroke appears on the T. The overall effect is of rather elaborate letters. The vertical ascender of the D is relatively unusual in Early Medieval Irish inscriptions. It is a shame that none of the other Tullylease inscriptions contain the letter D, as this might have been another disticntive letter form, along with the angular C, E, and S, that might be attributed to this monastery.
