Discovery:in/on structure, 1900 Kermode, R.D.
History:Kermode/1907, 101, 213: `found at Maughold Church when undergoing extensive repairs in 1900, and now in the village Hall, by the Vicarage...found during extensive repairs to Maughold Church, and brought to me by the Vicar, Rev. R.D. Kermode, in December, 1900'.

Megaw/1950, 173: `actually found in the walls of Maughold church'.

The stone now stands in the `House of Crosses' at Maughold.

Geology:Kermode/1907, 213, describes the stone as `slaty' and local.

The stone is squarish and of no obvious function. Kermode/1907, 214, however, argues that it was erected within the church walls for instruction.
Condition:incomplete , good
The stone is broken. If the second half of the ogham alphabet was carved on this stone then about half of its original length is missing.
