HEAD: THE CRUCIFIXION

Christ stands with his legs bound and ams falling at a slight angle. On the left, Stephaton with flexed legs hold the vinegar-bearing vessel to below Christ's chin. The lance piercing Christ's left arm-pit is held by Longinus, whose head and arm alone are visible...

WEST SIDE

W1: An angular S-shaped spiral.

W2: Knots of linked interlacing.

W3: Four spirals from which animal forms emerge.

W4: Damaged knots of interlace.

NORTH FACE

Plinth: Inscription...

N1: An interlace of two parallel strands.

N2: Interlinked horizontal and vertical pelta-shaped spirals with bossed terminals.

N3: Irregular animal interlace, with heads emerging at the corners.

N4: Eve gives the Apple to Adam...

Head

At the centre of the head there is a square panel with roll moulding around the edges. Standing out from its surface is a circle with a raised and decorated boss at the centre, which is linked to three of the six bosses which form a circle around it. The corners of the panel bear interlace. Beneath the square panel are two birds with interlaced necks, and there is further interlace on either side of and above the central square panel'.
