Date:889 - 892 (Petrie/1872)
Petrie/1872, 39, associates the Suibine on this graveslab with the scholar Suibne whose death was recorded by both the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in the year 891 and the Annales Cambriae for 889. Macalister/1949, 61, agrees with this.
Language:Goidelic (rbook)
Ling. Notes:none
Palaeography:CISP: The lettering is in an elegant form of Insular half-uncial. The B, N and M of line one have wedge-shaped finials and does the L of line two and the H of the final line. The initial S is larger than the other letters and is majuscule. The U's are V-shaped. The B has a shortish curved ascender that curves over a very circular but open bow. The N and Ms are in the minuscule forms with slightly curved top strokes. The first E is in the closed minuscule form, while the second is in the open uncial form and is ligatured with a preceding 'OC' form of A. The first A is half-uncial and the third is minuscule. The L is curved. A small superscript C has been carved above the M of line 1 and an interpunct has been placed between this M and the preceding E.
