Wallace/Timoney/1987, 60: `inscription pecked'.

Palaeography:Wallace/Timoney/1987, 60: `On the smoothened surface there is a pecked, two-line inscription with well executed 6cm high letters'.

CISP: The S and R of the first line are both majuscule if not capitalis, the R having an open bow. The N of the second line is minuscule and has a curved top stroke and a short stroke to the left from the top of the left ascender. This combination makes it unlikely, although not impossible, that the first line was in capitalis. The more likely conclusion is that the text was in half-uncial.
