History:Allen/Anderson/1903, 308--309, states that this stone was discovered `in the churchyard' at Abernethy, and that it was `now [i.e. 1903] in the National Museum of Antiquities, Edinburgh'.

Forsyth/1996, 2, `discovered in 1890 by a Mr Marr of Abernethy...according to Romilly Allen it was found in the ancient churchyard...Dr Alexander Laing of Newburgh-on-Tay presented the stone to the National Antiquities Museum on 9 May 1892'.
