Site Notes

Tomlin/1995, 775, notes that the stone was found beside the Roman road leading east out of Old Carlisle.

Dark/Dark/1996, 63, argue that the site of Old Carlisle, which was under the command of the Dux Britanniarum in the Roman period, was part of a continuing British defence of northern Britain in the post-Roman period.
