Site Notes

RCAHMW/1937, 21: `Parish church...stands in the centre of the parish. It was rebuilt of the old materials and on the original foundations in 1845. The walls are of rubble and the roof slated. Carved stones reset in the walls indicate an original 12th-century church, and windows of the late 14th and 15th centuries are in the N and S walls'.

A detailed description of the rebuilding of the church, its previous and subsequent form are given by Jones/1846, 65-67.

Jones/1846, 66, views the name 'Heneglwys', meaning 'old church', as evidence for the antiquity of the church. He provides no evidence as to how old this name is.

Edwards/1986, 28 and RCAHMW/1937, 21, both regard the twelfth-century carved stonework included within this church as further evidence for its antiquity.
