UCL Institute of Archaeology

The Institute of Archaeology currently has a vacancy for a Lecturer in Chinese Archaeology (Ref.:1290898). The deadline for applications is 28 November 2012.  

An international conference in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention will be held at UCL on 1 December.  

Congratulations to Jennifer Carpenter (1st year, BA Archaeology and Anthropology) and Tahiya Qureshi (BA Archaeology) who have both won a place on the Lloyds Scholars Programme for 2012-13.

Dorian Fuller was recently appointed to take over as the UK Executive Director of the International Centre for Chinese Heritage and Archaeology (ICCHA). 

Congratulations to Honorary Professor Henry Cleere who has been awarded the prestigious International Yellow River Friendship Prize for his outstanding contribution to the safeguarding of Chinese cultural heritage.

Two new volumes in the series on Critical Cultural Heritage, published by Left Coast Press, with Beverley Butler as Series Editor, are now available.

Matt Pope recently organised a conference with the Sussex Archaeological Society to mark the centenary of the discovery of Piltdown man and to discuss the historical context of the fraud.

The Institute is very pleased to welcome Marc Vander Linden who will be leading a 5 year ERC-funded project investigating the transmission of farming and associated technological innovations in Europe.

Congratulations to Meriel McClatchie, currently an Honorary Research Associate of the Institute, who was recently awarded a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ireland to undertake research on early medieval agriculture.
