Job Vacancy: ASE Senior Archaeologist (As and When Contract)

Archaeology South-East is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Archaeologist on an ‘As and When’ contract.  The deadline for applications is 1 December.

Archaeology South-East (the contracts division for the Centre for Applied Archaeology of the UCL Institute of Archaeology) wishes to appoint this post to cover busier periods of report and publication writing work, working irregular hours.

Applicants should have a good working knowledge of British archaeology of all periods and a comprehensive knowledge of field practice. Candidates should have a proven track record of both report and publication writing.

The post will be based at ASE offices in Witham.

Applicants should have a graduate qualification or equivalent experience in the study of archaeology. They should also have:

  • The ability to analyse complex field data and prepare logical coherent and comprehensive reports
  • The ability to manipulate archaeological data within a range of relevant software programmes
  • Competence in the use of computer spreadsheets and databases
  • A demonstrable record of publication and/or unpublished report preparation
  • A commitment to the professional standards of archaeology
  • A flexibility in approach to problem-solving, and interpreting the requirements of all parties to a project
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • A commitment to UCL’s policy of equal opportunity and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues, students and others of all cultures and backgrounds
