The Institute's Society of Archaeological Masters Students (SAMS) is holding its fifth annual conference on 26 May for which a call for papers is announced.

The theme of this year's SAMS conference is 'Archaeology: Changing Methods and Themes'.

Participation is welcomed from archaeology and heritage students spanning all MA/MSc courses. The aim is to create a platform that showcases the high standard of research undertaken by masters students, and to encourage interdisciplinary discussion whilst recognising individual specialisations. 

Areas of discussion include:

  • Advanced Approaches to Archaeological Interpretation
  • Heritage and Modern Cultural Developments
  • Public Engagement: Towards Inclusive Participation 
  • The Role of Archaeological Fiction in Modern Society

Call for papers

Participants wishing to give a 15-20 minute talk followed by questions are asked to submit an abstract (of no more than 250 words) accompanied by a proposed working title via the online form on the conference website. The deadline for submissions is 28 April 2017.

The Society of Archaeological Masters Students (SAMS) was created in 2012 to assist Masters students at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL by providing events such as lectures, seminars, and social activities.
