The Heritage Studies Section will host a seminar on the restoration of Sangiin Dalai monastery in Mongolia at the Institute on 3 December.

Pimpim de Azevedo will present the restoration of the 18th-century Sangiin Dalai Buddhist monastery that has revived an important Mongolian cultural centre in the south Gobi desert and rekindled a tradition of vernacular craftsmanship.

The newly-consecrated monastery stands as a compelling testament to the dedication and determination of the residents of Nomgon Sum in revitalizing their traditional cultural heritage. This work received an Award of Excellence, the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, 2009.

Pimpim de Azevedo is an artist, Tibetan architecture conservationist, and co-founder of Tibet Heritage Fund.

All welcome!

Any enquiries about the event may be directed to Dean Sully.
