UCL Maya Hieroglyphics Workshop 2013

Registration is now open for the 2nd Annual UCL Maya Hieroglyphics Workshop being held at the Institute from 20-22 September.

This year's event will start with an introductory lecture on Friday evening and then continue with 3 different workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

Participants can choose between a beginners’ workshop for those without any knowledge of ancient Maya writing (or to 'freshen up' previous knowledge); an intermediate workshop about glyphs, iconography and their real life counterparts (for those with an understanding of the basics covered in the beginners’ class); and a ballgame workshop, which will combine working on Maya hieroglyphs with learning about the history and traditions of the Mesoamerican ballgame, culminating in actually learning how to play! On Sunday afternoon workshop participants will then have a ballgame tournament to play or watch, to see what happens to the winners (or losers?).

Maya Glyphs 2013 is supported by the UCL Public Engagement Unit and the Institute of Archaeology.
